I was prepared to discuss the optimization homework last Thursday, but it slipped my mind. We will discuss today.

Also we will discuss the model selection homework due last night.

Today's lab will be on ModelDB, a database of hundreds of neural models.

ModelDB is located here. It is a great resource for modellers. We are going to do this tutorial which shows you how to use the database.

Homework Y

Homework Y.1 Look through the database and get a feel for the scope of what is there. Choose one model that suits your personality. Follow the link to the page dedicated to the model. Paste a screenshot of this page into your PowerPoint.

Homework Y.2 The tutorial was written for a course on NEURON and the tutorial instructs the user to access a "local" copy of the files. There is no local copy for you: you will have to download the files from the database. Search on the author's name (Moore et al) and look for year of publication (1983). Save the zip file to your hard drive for use in Homework Y.5. Paste a copy of the Moore '83 model page into your PowerPoint.

Homework Y.3 Follow the PUBMED link to the paper that accompanies this model and include a screenshot of the PUBMED abstract in your PowerPoint.

Homework Y.4 Follow the link from PUBMED to the paper and include a screenshot of one of its Figures.

Homework 1-4 should be super easy. The next problem may or may not be hard.

Homework Y.5 The ReadMe file for Moore '83 says that the model in the database meant to reproduce the figures in the paper. Spend a reasonable amount of time trying to reproduce the figure you chose for Homework 4. Because I don't know how hard this problem will be, grading will be based either on success, or without success, on effort. Use the instructions in the tutorial as a guide.
